What a way to start the week for the Baby Bombers. A great pitching performance and some fancy bullpen work along with an offensive Thunder explosion led to a 7-1 Monday. Take a look around the farm in today’s Yankees MiLB Roundup.

TRIPLE A

Scranton/Wilkes-Barres RailRiders (48-54) defeated the Gwinnett Braves (46-57) 2-1.

It was a pitching duel in Gwinnett Monday night. Bruce Billings went seven strong walking none and striking out six while allowing just one run. Edgmer Escalona pitching two shutout innings in relief. Second baseman Rob Refsnyder doubled in the tying run to set the stage for the ninth inning dramatics. After lead off singles by DH Adonis Garcia and first baseman Kyle Roller, John Ryan Murphy laid down a picture perfect bunt. Third baseman Rob Segedin in his RailRider debut hit the game winning sacrifice fly in the next at bat. Tomorrow’s starter is yet to be determined for the 6:35 PM start.

DOUBLE A

Trenton Thunder (48-55) played two with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (47-55) 9-2.

Game 1

Jaron Long moved to 3-0 since his promotion with another strong outing. He went six innings allowing one run and no walks while striking out four. Left fielder Ben Gamel and first baseman Peter O’Brien led the nine hit attack with two apiece. Catcher Gary Sanchez blasted his tenth home run of the season as the Thunder won 4-1.

Game 2

The Thunder swept the double header, taking game 2 8-5. Jairo Heredia was lit up for five runs in his three innings of work, but Mark Montgomery went two strong shutout innings to clamp down the victory. Peter O’Brien, this game at DH, smashed his 20th home run on a 3-for-4 night. Center fielder Mason Williams and first baseman Tyson Blaser joined in with three hit each. Manny Banuelos takes the mound Tuesday for 7:05 first pitch.

SINGLE A
High A
The Tampa Yankees (47-52) defeated the St. Lucie Mets (57-39) 5-3.

Rafael De Paula gave a strong performance going 5.1 innings and striking out seven. He was a bit wild walking three but limited the damage to one run. The hits were few, as the T-Yanks only mustered six on the night, but center fielder Danny Oh made sure his count. His fifth inning bases loaded triple secured the win on the evening. Connor Kendrick takes the mound Tuesday. First pitch is 7:00 PM.

The Charleston RiverDogs (48-53) defeated the Augusta GreenJackets (48-53) 8-5.

Gabriel Encinas and Ian Clarkin combined to go start six innings allowing just two earned runs to cross the plate. Left fielder Brandon Thomas led the 17-hit brigade by going 4-for-4 on the evening and driving in three runs. Short stop Tyler Wade continued his hot hitting with a three hit performance. 2014 draft pick center fielder Mark Payton continued to be a tough out in his young career by belting his first ever home run. Rookie Davis takes the mound Tuesday night at 7:05 PM.
