For the New York Yankees, this past weekend couldn’t have finished up better after a 47-47 first half of the season, that left the team in third place, and many wondering if all of the money spent was for not. Over the weekend, the Yankees put it on the NL Central Cincinnati Reds, and two of the best pitchers in the National League in Johnny Cueto and Alfredo Simon. After a wild pitch from closer Aroldis Chapman, Brian McCann, the disappointing free agent catcher, blooped a ball into short right field, driving home the winning run, and giving the Yankees a sweep.
The three-game winning streak pulls the Yankees within 3 games of first place Baltimore in the AL East, and 1 1/2 games of the second Wild Card spot. Starting tonight, the visiting Texas Rangers, who are battered and bruised, bring a 39-59 record into the Bronx, as their disappointing season cannot end soon enough. Let’s take a closer look at the things to look for was we preview the Rangers and Yankees!
