Former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will be honored by the Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the Yankees, on Thursday, August 7th at Arm and Hammer Park. Rivera will throw out the first pitch and also be presented with a check for his MVP foundation on behalf of his church Refugio de esperanze (refuge of hope). The game will be against the Altoona curve at 7:05.
“Mariano and his family have done so much for the community through the Mariano Rivera Foundation and through the restoration of Refugio de Esperanza,” said Dr. Thomas “Doc” Haveron, founder of the MVP Foundation. “He was a legendary player, an amazing humanitarian, and a friend of the MVP Foundation and we’re so happy he and his family will be part of this year’s event.”
Rivera is widely considered the best closer of all-time, and also one of the classiest Yankees of all-time. He had a total of 652 total saves and career 2.21 ERA
