Dillon McNamara has certainly made quite the impression. The Staten Island native has been promoted from the Short Season Staten Island Yankees all the way to the Trenton Thunder. He is expected to start tonight at Reading against the Fightin’ Phils.

McNamara was drafted by the Yankees in the 27th round of the 2013 June MLB Amateur Draft. The 22-year old hulking right hander is quite the intimidating force on the mound. Standing at 6’5” and 220 pounds, McNamara set Adelphi University’s single-season and career save records before heading to the minors. McNamara is known for his good fastball and hard slider which has helped with his uncanny control.

Primarily used out of the bullpen last year in his rookie campaign, McNamara posted outstanding numbers. He finished 2013 at 4-3 with a 2.19 ERA and 31 strikeouts over 37 innings pitched. He has been even better thus far in 2014: over his first 15 innings he has struck out 14 while walking only two and allowing just three earned runs for a 0.98 WHIP and a 1.76 ERA. We will get to see how McNamara handles his big jump tonight from FirstEnergy Stadium at 7:05 PM.
