Today was somewhat of an offensive breakout for both teams, but the Yankees were able to put just enough runs on the board to defeat the Twins, led by Brian Roberts, by a final of 6-5.

Starting pitcher Chase Whitley was roughed up again tonight, giving up 4 runs in just 3 innings, but David Huff was able to come in and shut things down after that.

On offense the Yankees had 8 extra-base hits. Brett Gardner smacked a triple right out of the gate, and later scored on a Brian Roberts’ double. Roberts was able to put together a nice day, with 4 extra-base hits, finishing a much-needed strong afternoon, 4-for-5 on the day. The Twins did try to mount a bit of a comeback. Second baseman Brian Dozier launched his 16th homer of the season, and Chris Colabello added 2 more late runs to bring the Twins within one run.

Closer David Robertson was able to come in and strike out the first 2 hitters he faced, before giving up a double to catcher Kurt Suzuki. Robertson rebounded nicely however, by striking out Chris Parmelee to end the game.

David huff got credit for the win his, 3rd of the season (3-0, 4.33 ERA). The Yankees will go for win number three in a row tomorrow, and be in a prime position to sweep on Sunday. First pitch is at 2:10 p.m., and the pitchers will be David Phelps (3-4, 4.26) vs Yohan Pino (0-2, 6.32)
