Yankees’ MiLB Roundup for July 2nd: CC Sabathia Has Second Rehab Start

It was an average night for the Baby Bombers on Wednesday, as they split the day with three wins and three loses. Here are the recaps.

TRIPLE-A

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (40-46) lose to Buffalo Bisons (45-40) 3-1

It was a nail biter between these two teams, but the Bisons found a way to sneak by the RailRiders. Nik Turley had a decent start for the RailRiders, as he lasted 3.1 innings, giving up one hit on two runs, and walking six while striking out two. Scott Sizemore had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-3. The RailRiders will continue their series with the Bisons, with their starting pitcher to be announced. First pitch is set to start Thursday at 6:05 PM.

Trenton Thunder (39-47) lose to Portland Sea Dogs (56-28) 8-6

The Thunder fans got a special treat, as Yankees’ pitcher CC Sabathia made his second rehab start tonight. Sabathia’s night was cut short and didn’t go that well, as he only lasted 3.2 innings. He gave up five runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking one. Gary Sanchez and Dan Fiorito had good nights offensively, as they both picked up two hits each. Matt Tracy will get the start for the Thunder in the final game of the series, as he comes into the game with an impressive 7-2 record and 3.49 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

High-A

Tampa Yankees (41-41) were postponed.

The Yankees had an unexpected off day, as they had their game postponed due to inclement weather. The team hopes to take the field in the next game scheduled, which is against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Conner Kendrick is set to start for Tampa, as he comes into the game with a 3-4 record and 4.50 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Low-A

Charleston RiverDogs (36-48) lose to Savannah Sand Gnats (54-26) 7-4

Brady Lail started for the RiverDogs, as he didn’t do as well as expected. He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits, and walked one while struck out five. J.R. Murphy  contributed to the offense for the dogs, as he went 2-for-4. The team is hoping to avoid a sweep from Savannah, as they are set to play the final game of the series at 7:05 PM. Caleb Smith will get handed the ball for the RiverDogs, as he carries in a 4-6 record with a respectable 3.36 ERA.

Short-Season

Staten Island Yankees (11-8) defeat the Aberdeen Iron Birds (2-17) 9-5

Staten Island was the only team who could salvage a win today. Jordan Cote started the game for the Yankees, as he lasted four innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out for. Connor Spencer has continued his consistent hitting, as he went 2-for-4 at the dish. The Yankees are looking to win the series, as they play the third game against Aberdeen at 7:05 PM. The pitching match up is to be determined.
