Dean Anna Designated For Assignment

The Dean of Swing experiment might officially be over. According to MLBTR.com, to make room for infielder Zelous Wheeler, who was promoted to the big club this morning, the team designated Dean Anna for assignment. In a corresponding move, the slumping Yangervis Solarte was sent down to Triple-A Scranton.

Anna along with Solarte had originally made the big league club out of spring training, playing in a dozen games before being sent down. Anna’s struggles have continued since his demotion, with a slash line of .192/.283/.292 in 36 games. The Yankees acquired Anna this past off-season from the San Diego Padres. They had hoped he would be able to provide some infield depth with the departure of Robinson Cano, and the impending suspension at the time of third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
