The Yankees look to bounce back after an unimpressive showing last night against the Blue Jays. The final score was 8-3, and Chase Whitley was roughed up for the first time this year giving up 8 runs, in just 3 innings.

Today, the Yankees will send pitcher David Phelps to the mound. Phelps is 3-4, with a 3.86 ERA this season, and has had recent success against the Blue Jays, allowing just two runs in seven innings, and seven strikeouts to complete the sweep on Thursday. Phelps also had an impressive start against Oakland a week earlier going 6 2/3 innings, and getting the 7-0 victory. Let’s see if Phelps can roll out 3 solid starts in a row.

Phelps will be opposed by Mark Buehrle, who could be a Cy Young candidate this year. He has an outstanding record 0f 10-4, with an ERA to match at 2.32. Although he is having a great 2014, Buerhle has a history of struggles against the Yankees. Buerhle is a measly 1-11 against the Bombers, and has an inflated ERA of 5.84 when facing them. Buerhrle hasn’t beat the Yankees since 2004 when he was a member  of the Chicago White Sox.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Brett Gardner: Gardner has had great success against the Jays and especially Buehrle going 10-for-20 against him.

-Yankees Offense: The Yankees tend to perform well against finesse-type pitchers. Expect them to put up good numbers tonight.
