After sweeping the Blue Jays last week, you had to figure the Yankees would go into Toronto with some confidence. Even after losing their past two games. Well, now the streak has reached three as Chase Whitley was pounded from the start as the Yankees lost to Toronto by an 8-3 score.

The Jays struck for one in the first. Melky Cabrera doubled and Adam Lind singled him in. Then the wheels really fell off.

A sixth run second  put an end to this one in a hurry. Three straight singles Juan Francisco, Muenori Kawasaki and Anthony Gose loaded the bases. Jose Reyes grounded into a force out but a run scored to make it 2-0. Cabrera’s single made it 3-0. Lind brought everyone home with a three run bomb to make it 6-0. Edwin Encarnacion singled, went to second on a wild pitch, third on a groundout and scored on Dioner Navarro‘s single.

Mark Teixeira got the only Yankee run off starter Marcus Stroman with his 13th homer of the year. Navarro drove in a run with a single in the bottom half to finally KO Whitley.

The Yankees got a couple of runs in the ninth to make it interesting. Francisco Cervelli led off with a walk and Carlos Beltran singled. Yangervis Solarte broke his 28 at bat hitless streak with an RBI single. After a flyout, Kelly Johnson drove home a run with a bloop double, but Brian Roberts flew out to end the game.

David Phelps looks to end the Yankees losing streak as they take on Mark Buehrle at 7:05 tomorrow.
