According to field reporter Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network, Yankees’ starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia threw 35 pitches today down in Tampa. According to her report, Bombers’ manager Joe Girardi stated that while Sabathia believes he can be back prior to the All-Star break, realistically, the Yankees would like to make sure he is as close to 100 percent healthy before activating him.

Marakovits went on to state that the Yankees will continue to have Sabathia throwing every few days, watching his injury knee, and begin the process of re-stretching Sabathia out, with the hopes that he will be healthy enough to return after throwing actively in Tampa for several weeks. The Yankees currently need all the help they can get, as Vidal Nuno might not see another start in pinstripes.

Another item of note that broadcaster Michael Kay asked Marakovits about, was the latest with Michael Pineda. She stated the previously reported inflammation has shut Pineda down from throwing this week, but the Yankees hope to have him throwing and rehabbing once again at the start of next week. The hope is to have Pineda return to the starting rotation shortly after the beginning of August.
