Kelly Johnson left last night’s game with bruised fingers in the sixth inning. The injury occurred when Johnson was trying to get a bunt down to move Brian Roberts over to third base. Johnson failed to do so and ended up wearing a pitch right off the fingers when he squared around.
After the game, Johnson was taken for x-rays and thankfully the results showed no structural damage. When asked how long Johnson may be out, manager Joe Girardi told NJ.com, “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”
The utility infielder was hitting well as of late, going 5-for-12 in his last five games, including last night’s early departure. Hopefully it’s a quick turnaround for Johnson as the Yankees need as much help as they can get in the infield right now.
