The New York Yankees have reached an agreement with their third round pick of the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft, RHP Austin DeCarr. He is expected in Tampa tomorrow to finish his deal, which will be twice his slot value. DeCarr is one of the few prep player’s the Yankees drafted, and considering he needed to be paid twice his slot to sign, it’s no surprise they drafted so few other prep players.
The Yankees knew he was going to be expensive, and stayed away from other tough-to-sign prep players because of him. Austin DeCarr is considered to be a steal in this round, because he is a bit more polished than other players at his age. DeCarr is a 6’4″, and 220 lbs., and has been clocked at 95 mph on his fastball. He also throws a changeup and a curve ball. Specific terms of his deal have not been disclosed. DeCarr will most likely begin his trek through the Yankees minor league system with the Gulf Coast Yankees.
