Derek Jeter has been the Captain of the Yankees going on 20 years and it looks like he wants to be a boss when he completes his 20th and final season this year. “Thats the next goal, buddy”,  said Jeter at his 18th annual turn 2 foundation dinner Monday night to the Post’s Zach Braziller. “Calling the shots not answering to someone, thats what interest me”.  “I’d like to think i’ll be a good one”.

If Jeter does become an owner, don’t expect him to be as ruthless as George Steinbrenner. ” I’d probably be a little more behind the scenes than the Boss” he said “…but i learned alot from the Boss.  Jeter was asked if he would ever be interested in owning the Yankees if The Steinbrenner’s ever put the team up for sale?  Jeter joked “You got some money for me?”

Jeter has said he has no interest in becoming a manager because of the travel and time it demands.  “I want no part of that, then I got to answer questions from you guys every day.” Jeter has yet to reach out to any owner inquiring about a team, but he intends to do so after the season’s end.  He said he has no interest in owning a team in any other sport it’s baseball or nothing!

As for the season, Jeter remains optimistic. He has gotten on a roll lately, hitting safely in five of six games.  The Yankees are right in the thick of things at 29-27 sitting in second place despite a bunch of  unfortunate injuries. However he has not second-guessed his decision to call it quits at season’s end, But the season is not over yet Jeter says.

“Its not bittersweet, it’s not over yet, we’re in it to win”
