Yankees' Minor League Roundup for May 17th

Saturday night was Splitsville for the Baby Bombers. Two wins and two losses highlighted Saturday’s match ups on the farm. Here’s the recap of the day’s games in today’s Minor League Roundup.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barres RailRiders (20-21) lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox (25-19) 6-3.

It’s never fun to lose to the Red Sox on any level and this one hurt. Brian Gordon went 6.1 innings allowing four runs while striking out six and walking one. The RailRiders had their chances but three double plays ended several rallies. DH Jose Pirela provided most of the offense going 3-3 with his third home run of the year and two RBI. Dean Anna connected on his first blast of the season as well.

Trenton Thunder (23-19) lost to the Portland Sea Dogs (25-14) 4-3.

The Thunder are reeling as they dropped their fifth in a row. Eric Ruth and Tyler Webb combined to go 6.2 quality innings allowing just three runs and had the Thunder with the lead late in the game. Taylor Garrison eventually lost the game in the bottom of the eighth. CF Ben Gamel had another big day going 3-5 with two doubles. C Peter O’Brien blasted yet another homer, his fifth since joining the Thunder. Jeremy Bleich gets the ball Sunday to try and right the ship.

The Tampa Yankees (21-20) defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals (22-17) 3-2.

The T-Yanks are the anti-Thunder as they have now won five in a row. Connor Kendrick went 5 innings allowing one run with four strikeouts for the win while Brett Gerritse came on for a four inning save. CF Jake Cave continued his hot streak going 2-4 with an RBI. SS Cito Culver went 3-3 with his own RBI. Eric Wooten toes the rubber Sunday to keep the streak rolling.

The Charleston RiverDogs (22-19) defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats (28-13) 3-1.

Rookie Davis went three solid innings in his start not allowing any runs while striking out three. Giovanny Gallegos let a few people on, surrendering six hits over his four shutout innings, but picked up his first win of the season. Cesar Vargas made it exciting allowing a run but picked up his first save. RF Aaron Judge had a big night going 3-4 with an RBI while 3B Miguel Andujar went 2-4 driving in a run as well. Luis Severino hits the mound for the RiverDogs Sunday.
