Interesting tweet on Friday from Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal about the future of the New York Yankees rotation:
Should the Yankees consider it?
Well, we don’t exactly know what they are getting out of CC Sabathia and Michael Pineda upon returning from injury. Vidal Nuno hasn’t been good. We don’t really know about David Phelps quite yet, though he has been okay in a couple of chances so far. When Kelley comes back it may be time to move Adam Warren to the rotation?
The Yankees do have guys they can turn to in the minors to supplement their bullpen. Mark Montgomery has a 1.45 ERA and struck out 22 in 18.2 innings in AAA. Danny Burawa has struck out 14 in 9.2 innings and has yet to give up a run. Jose Ramirez is on the 40 man roster and is just coming back from injury. He has struck out six in 3.1 innings.
While Chase Whitley has just come up to start and is just starting to start in his career, the Yankees could use some additional internal depth, without trying to go out and trade for someone like Jason Hammel.
The point is it might be better to have Warren stretch out and go back to starting even though he has been excellent in the bullpen. It will make the Yankees that much deeper.
