You would think that when you miss Felix Hernandez because of a rainout you would be thrilled and get a boost? Not the Yankees. Roenis Elias did his best Hernandez imitation striking out 10 in seven innings as the Yankees fell to the Mariners 4-2.

Hiroki Kuroda rebounded a little bit from his previous bad start against the Angels, but it wasn’t enough. In the first, with one out, Stefen Romero singled and Robinson Cano followed with an RBI double. The Yanks would tie it when Jacoby Ellsbury hit his first homer as a member of the Yankees.

The Mariners took the lead in the third. Brad Miller reached on an error by Derek Jeter. Michael Saunders singled. Two batters later, Cano’s groundout made it 2-1.

The Mariners finished their scoring in the fourth. Kyle Seager singled and Dustin Ackley walked. A single by Miller and a double by Saunders made it 4-1.

The Yanks would get their final run in the sixth. Alfonso Soriano singled and Mark Teixeira reached on Cano’s error. Brian McCann singled in Soriano.

It’s a battle of lefties as the Rays come to town for the weekend. David Price faces Vidal Nuno at 7:05.
