BREAKING: Robertson Headed For DL With Groin Strain

It was supposed to be an enjoyable evening for the Yankees and, after the team had just won their home opener over the Baltimore Orioles 4-2, in front of a sellout crowd at Yankee Stadium. However, it was anything but that, when immediately following the game during his post-game press conference, Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced that newly appointed closer David Robertson, would be headed for the DL with a Grade 1 groin strain.

Girardi said it happened in yesterday’s game vs. Toronto. Robertson is 2-for-2 in save opportunities so far. Girardi also announced Shawn Kelley, who has been a reliable option for the Yankees out of the ‘pen, will take over the closer duties until further notice. Certainly not the news the Yankees and their fans had been hoping for.
