  1. Opening Day!: Opening Day for the Yankees is finally here after an Australian Opening Day, Sunday Night Baseball Opening Night and every other team in MLB opening yesterday, the Yankees will finally get to play a game.
  2. 40-Man Roster: The Yankees face a 3 PM deadline today to finalize the 40-man roster in correspondence with adding Yangervis Solarte to the 25-man roster. A trade of one of the catchers or Ichiro seems unlikely at this late date. The Yankees could designate for assignment a player such as Preston Claiborne. However, it seems most likely that the Yankees simply move minor league pitcher Nik Turley from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.
  3. Opening Day Preview: CC Sabathia (14-13, 4.78 ERA in 2013) will make his sixth straight opening day start for the Bombers against the big signee of the Astros off-season Scott Feldman (12-12, 4.78 last year).   The Yankees will debut their new lineup with Brett Gardner hitting seventh and in stark contrast to 2013, begin the season at full strength with nearly no injuries.
  4. Numbers Game: Jersey numbers for the Yankees have been in shorter supply than most teams for quite a while. The Yankees have had so many great players over the years they will be only team with two numbers retired twice (8, Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra and 42 Jackie Robinson and Mariano Rivera).  The newest Yankees chose their 2014 jersey numbers. Dean Anna will use number 45 in honor of White Sox minor leaguer Michael Jordan, his first choice of 23 not being available. Vidal Nuno will switch to number 57 this year. The final member of the 25-man roster, Yangervis Solarte, will stick with his spring training number of 89.

Watching & jete just looks tired. CC just don’t seem to have anything, Beltran looks lost & lazy in right field! Sure hope these guys can cut it this year. I know it’s the first game but I would have taken out CC! Girardi is just letting Houston pound him. He can’t seem to pitch since surgery & the weight loss.
