Bomber Bites for March 25th

  1. Minor Nova: Ivan Nova had to work on the official off day yesterday. He pitched for High-A Tampa against Low-A Charleston. The box score showed exactly what you might think a number 3 starter would do against Single-A competition. Nova went 8 innings, walked one, struck out ten and allowed zero runs on 91 pitches.
  2. Ellsbury Update: Jacoby Ellsbury who has been out over a week with a calf injury, will return to action in a minor league game today. He will DH and not play the field. Should the minor league game be rained out, the Yankees have stated that he will not play in the major league game later tonight. The Yankees want to keep the option open to backdate any potential DL trip.
  3. Tyler Austin Update: Yankee prospect Tyler Austin returning from a wrist injury that robbed him of his power in 2013 played in a simulated game on Monday. He will get into a full minor league game today for his first action of the year. Although he has been primarily an outfielder he will spend time this season at both corner infield positions to provide extra versatility.
  4. Starting Rotation Announced: The Yankees announced  the first four starters to start the season. As previously reported,  CC Sabathia will be the opening day starter in Houston. He will be followed by Hiroki Kuroda and Ivan Nova. Mashiro Tanaka will open up the series in Toronto. Joe Girardi still will not officially name the fifth starter, but nearly all signs point to Michael Pineda being named the starter as early as this afternoon.
  5. Today’s game: The Bombers will play the Phillies tonight with a 7:05 EDT first pitch. David Phelps will get the start against Jeff Manship… and those are your Bomber Bites for March 25th!
