Jacoby Ellsbury had an MRI on his calf Thursday morning, and results came back negative just minutes ago. Ellsbury has a history of injuries, so Yankee personnel were holding their collective breath on this one.
Ellsbury, entering the first year of a 7 year contract with the Bronx Bombers, has missed 264 games in the last four seasons. His health is a major concern of the Yankees, considering the $150+ million they are on the hook for.
Joe Girardi said that while the results came back clean, Ellsbury is still day to day. However, he did have more encouraging news. “I’m very confident he’ll be ready for April 1 (opening day in Houston).”
With a fragile player comes a nervous front office. Ellsbury is healthy this time. The real question is how long until his next injury?
