A pitching prospect for the New York Yankees has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Omar Luis (Rodriguez), a 21-year old lefty pitcher, was pulled over early Friday morning, given a field sobriety test, which came back at 0.10. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08. Rodriguez was jailed at the Hillsborough County Jail, and later released on $500 bond. Rodriguez had been driving the wrong way on a one-way street in his red Mercedes Benz.
Omar Rodriguez pitched last season in the Gulf Coast League after defecting from Cuba, and received a multi-million dollar signing bonus from the Yankees. Rodriguez went 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA in 11 games in 2013. The Yankees have yet to comment on the arrest. He first drew attention after pitching for Cuba back in 2010 in the World Junior Baseball Championship.
