Yankees Deal Huff To Giants For Cash

The New York Yankees have traded lefty reliever David Huff to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations. The Yankees had previously claimed Huff off of waivers from the Cleveland Indians in May of 2013. Pitching 34 2/3 innings between a couple of starts and several relief appearances, the 29-year-old Huff recorded a 3-1 record with a 5.50 ERA.

He had been designated for assignment on Wednesday by the Yankees after the signing of Japanese pitching phenom Masahiro Tanaka to a 7-year, $155 million dollar contract. The Yankees had soured on Huff after he became prone to giving up the long ball, tallying 7 over such a small sample size.

I´m a little surprised at this one. Huff helped out last year. I guess with Hughes gone they figure they don´t need him as a designated replacement

I wonder what the “cash considerations” were.
