Well. we told you earlier in the week that the GM meeting would really throw some logs onto the fire of the hot stove season. There are certainly an abundance of New York Yankees rumors to look at over the past few days with guys who were on the team last year and who are free agents right now. Let’s examine it all.

Free agent targets: Brendan Ryan could be re-signed quickly reports Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal. If he is re-signed, it still wouldn’t preclude the team from adding a starting shortstop (aka Stephen Drew). Hal Steinbrenner met with Derek Jeter about this possibility and apparently Jeter is ok with it. Speaking of Drew, the Yankees have met with the agents for Drew, Carlos Beltran, Shin-Soo Choo, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brian McCann according to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman. One guy who won’t come is Brian Wilson. Wilson will not shave his beard to play for the bombers. The team is also interested in free agent Kelly Johnson, who’s played second base and left field. As far as Robinson Cano goes, Cashman thinks he’ll go for the most money and will deal with Jay-Z directly in negotiations.

Current Players: There isn’t too much to report here except for one thing. Francisco Cervelli will be tendered a contract which isn’t that surprising.

Trades: Ricky broke down the David Freese potential deal here. One guy who could be available if they don’t get a catcher could be Jason Castro according to Heyman. If the Astros don’t want to pay Castro in arbitration, similar to Freese and the Cardinals, the Yankees could jump in and try to acquire him.
