The New York Yankees (75-64) were able to take care of business against a team that swept them a month ago. New York was able to sweep the Chicago White Sox and improve their record to 5-1 on this current ten game homestand. CC Sabathia was able to put up a solid outing on Wednesday, but Joe Girardi had to call on Mariano Rivera to get his first four out save since 2011 to secure the sweep. The Bronx Bombers have finally lived up to their nickname over the past few weeks, but what has been impressive is the team’s ability to string hits together in key spots. For example, on Tuesday night, the Yankees were able to rally from three runs down in the 8th inning against Chris Sale to pull off a come from behind victory. WIth the Yankees just 2.5 games back of the Rays for the second AL Wild Card spot, every game is crucial, including this weekend’s series with an AL East rival. If the AL East is on the Yankees’ mind, it is a must that they pull of a sweep in the next series.

The Boston Red Sox (84-57) are coming off of taking two of three from the Detroit Tigers, including handing Max Scherzer his second loss of the season on Tuesday. For Boston, it is all about putting runs on the board. Yankees’ fans hope that they wasted all their runs on Wednesday, when they hung a 20 spot on the Tigers, including a two home run performance by David Ortiz. For John Farrell‘s club, they hope to get Clay Buchholz back in the rotation by the beginning of next week to improve their rotation heading into a likely postseason berth. Boston also has their eyes on the future with the promotion of young shortstop Xander Bogaerts and third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who had five hits in the last series against Detroit, including a grand slam.

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Series Preview Show presented by BaldVinny.com, I recap the Yankees’ sweep of the White Sox and talk about the report that Joe Girardi will ask Mariano Rivera to reconsider his retirement after the season. Paul Prims from Bosox Injection joins the show to discuss Boston’s success vs. the Tigers, the pitching matchups for this series, and we go over the situation between Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Dempster from the last series. Finally, Paul and I give our players to watch in this weekend’s series.
