Yanks Go Yard Recap: New York Yankees Shut Out In Texas

A combination of facing an ace pitcher, arriving in the wee hours of the morning after a long night game and a punchless offense is a rather bad one. That was the New York Yankees as they lost their third of four games after the All-Star Break as they were shut out by Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers 3-0.

It’s not like Ivan Nova pitched badly for the Yankees. He gave up three runs over seven innings, and most years, it would be enough to get a win. Not on this night though and not with the offense as presently constituted.

Ian Kinsler led off the bottom of the first with a walk. After two outs, Kinsler stole second with Adrian Beltre at the dish. Beltre followed with an RBI single.

The Rangers used speed again in the sixth. With one out, Elvis Andrus walked and stole second. He went to third on a groundout and scored on Geovany Soto‘s double. Nelson Cruz scored the last run on his 23rd homer of the season in the seventh.

YGY Player Of The Game: Darvish

Phil Hughes will take on Alexi Ogando at 8:05 ET tomorrow night.

Notes: Curtis Granderson played in a simulated game. He walked twice and grounded out. Derek Jeter took grounders with the hope his quad will heal in time to be activated in time for Saturday’s game. There is speculation that the baseline for Alex Rodriguez‘s possible biogenesis suspension may be based on what happened to Ryan Braun today. Braun has been suspended for the rest of the season.
