The clock is ticking. Especially with the news of the day (more on that later) the expected reinforcements may not be so quick to come. Brian Cashman is going to have to be proactive if the New York Yankees are going to sniff the postseason. They got a solid performance from CC Sabathia, but again couldn’t get a clutch hit as they fell 3-1 to James Shields and the Royals.

The Yankees got their lone run in the first. Three straight singles by Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki and Robinson Cano plated the run. With the bases loaded and two out, Eduardo Nunez was robbed by Lorenzo Cain on what would’ve been a bases clearing double.

The Royals tied it in the sixth when David Lough hit his third homer. The Royals took the lead when Billy Butler hit his eighth homer of the season. Back to back doubles in the eighth by Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon in the eighth sealed it for Kansas City.

YGY Player Of The Game: Shields

Game three of the series pits Wade Davis and Ivan Nova at 7:05.

Notes: There are reports of suspensions for Biogenisis coming down after the All-Star Break. That means guys like Alex Rodriguez and Francisco Cervelli may be suspended for 50 games. Rodriguez was 0-3 today in Tampa. The Phillies are reportedly interested in Joba Chamberlain. You are going to hear a lot of rumors over the next 21 days as we approach the deadline.
