For all of the good things that happened during the day, the night didn’t turn out to be all that the New York Yankees hoped for. Phil Hughes fell to 3-6 and has an ERA over 5.00 this season, as the Yankees lost the nightcap of the doubleheader today, 6-0. The Yankees offense was to blame as well, as they could only muster three hits of Dodger pitching.

The Dodgers got to Phil Hughes very quickly. The first four Dodgers reached base with singles which equaled a 2-0 lead. In the third, Adrian Gonzalez doubled and scored two batters later when Andre Ethier hit a double of his own.

In the fifth. Yasiel Puig was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and stole second. He went to third on a groundout and scored on Hanley Ramirez‘s single. Ethier followed with a single of his own, and  Jerry Hairston hit a sac fly for another run. Puig in the seventh hit his fifth homer of the year to conclude the scoring.

The Tampa Bay Rays come to town to begin a pretty big four game set. Matt Moore will face Andy Pettitte at 7:05.

Notes: Alex Rodriguez was in the news again. There was a story saying he flew in Anthony Boesch to Detroit during the ALCS to try and help his performance. The Yankees haven’t commented on it. This was the first Dodger/Yankee game in the Bronx since the 1981 World Series.
