The New York Yankees’ (33-25) homestand ended on a great note as they were able to sweep the Cleveland Indians out of Yankee Stadium. The offense finally showed signs of life with Mark Teixeira and Travis Hafner each having two home runs during the series. Another key contributor in the series was Brett Gardner, who had a home run and five RBI’s in the series. The Yankees also got great pitching from CC Sabathia, who saved the bullpen on Wednesday by pitching his first complete game since August 2012. Now, the Bronx Bombers will hop on the plane and travel out to the West Coast for the next ten days. Their first stop is a trip out to the state of the Washington.
The Seattle Mariners (26-34) are coming off of a rough loss on Wednesday as they lost to the Chicago White Sox 7-5 in 16 innings. This is after they came from five runs down in the 14th inning to tie the game. Manager Eric Wedge has seen the struggles of young players like Jesus Montero and Dustin Ackley, but has seen second baseman Eric Franklin make an immediate impact to the club at second base. As for the mainstays in the lineup, Michael Morse should return Thursday after dealing with a quadriceps problem and Kendrys Morales is leading the team in batting average (.307). Of course, you can’t forget former Yankee Raul Ibanez, who hit two home runs when the Mariners beat the Yankees two games out of three at the Stadium back in May.
