New York Yankees News & Notes 3/8: Recap, Preview, Injuries, WBC Update

On the day after the inevitable was going to happen with Mariano Rivera, let’s take a look at some other news and notes around New York Yankees Camp.

Another Loss: The Yankees fell to 3-9 this spring with a 7-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Ivan Nova got the start a run on three hits in three innings. Five different Yankees each drove in a run. The Yankees defensively continue to struggle, making another two errors.

Another Injury: Clay Rapada has bursitis in his left shoulder. He won’t throw for another seven to ten days. On the positive side, Derek Jeter was cleared for full baseball activities. Mark Teixeira doesn’t think he’ll need surgery on his wrist, just needs to time for it to heal. He’s going to tape his wrist once he gets back. He will also begin doing cardio wearing a soft cast so that way his legs are in shape.

WBC Update: Robinson Cano looks ready. He went 3-5 with three RBI and a run in the Dominican Republic’s 9-3 over Venezuela. Gil Velazquez went 0-3 in Mexico’s 6-5 loss to Italy. Walter Ibarra only got in as a pinch runner for Mexico.

Today the Yankees head to Marlins camp. The game is on at 1:05 with the Marlins broadcast. Adam Warren will take the mound and Dan Johnson will begin his quest to be the opening day first baseman.
