As we are about 49 hours away from the first spring training game, let’s take a look at some of the news and notes. No I’m not repeating myself from a couple of days ago either.

Cano Extension: More talk about the Robinson Cano extension. Apparently Cano wants 10 years and the Yankees are probably going to offer about seven or eight. Look, Cano is going to test free agency. The Yankees can try all they want to lock him up before that, however, Scott Boras likes to take his clients to free agency. The Yankees envision Cano as the face of the franchise moving forward, so any talk of trading him at the deadline if the are out of it is silly (for now). The one guy that if they were out of contention that I could see being traded is Curtis Granderson. Speaking of Boras clients….

No Lohse: With Phil Hughes on the shelf for a couple of weeks, Kyle Lohse rumors perked up. (told you so). The Yankees are said to have no interest in him according to the New York Post. I feel that Lohse will be with a club before opening day. He may not be a fit with the Yankees though. I expect to see some regression from Lohse because he’s older, not with the Cardinals and if he went to the Yankees would be in the AL East.

Pineda Plea: Michael Pineda plead no contest to his DUI charge. He has 50 hours of community service and one year probation. Don’t drink and drive kids. I hope Pineda learns from this.

Jeter responds: Yesterday, I told you about David Price‘s feelings on the Yankees no facial hair policy. Well Yankee captain Derek Jeter responded. Via Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News:

“Do you really think some player would say no, all things considered, if it was a good deal for them? I’m not talking about his situation, but if it was a good deal for a player, I’m pretty sure most guys – maybe not all guys – would have no trouble shaving. Maybe it means a lot to him. I don’t know.”

It’s all about the Benjamins baby.
