Yanks Go Yard Series Preview: Red Sox at Yankees (8/17-8/19)

Well, if this week vs. the Texas Rangers was supposed to be a postseason preview for the New York Yankees, then the Bronx Bombers passed the test. Although they got disappointing pitching from Ivan Nova and the Yankees’ bullpen on Thursday, they were still able to win three of four from the Rangers. The reasons for that were because of their starting pitching, Derek Lowe, and opportune hitting from guys such as Nick Swisher.  Now, with a little over six weeks to go, it’s time for the Yankees to pass another test and the next exam comes with a little twist of revenge.

This weekend, the Yankees will try to get revenge on the Boston Red Sox, otherwise known as the traveling circus of Major League Baseball. They had that players’ meeting with the front office on July 26th, and ever since then, it has gone downhill for the folks in Beantown. The starting pitching has not been consistent from Jon Lester or Josh Beckett plus they are not buying into what Bobby Valentine is selling.

However, the Red Sox still took two of three from the Yankees at the Stadium two weeks ago. They are going out to play spoilers the rest of the way plus showcase some of their young guys. One player to keep an eye on at the catcher spot is Ryan Lavarnway. Lavarnway will be the new backup catcher now that Kelly Shoppach is with the New York Mets.

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Show brought to you by BaldVinny.com, we break down all things Boston Red Sox with Steve Peterson from BosoxInjection.com to talk about Boston’s plan for the future as well as who Steve would like to see as the next manager should Valentine be fired. Also, Steve asks me about the potential pitfalls that could stand in the way of a Yankee title. Finally, I break down what I make of Nova as well as Joba Chamberlain going forward for the Bronx Bombers.
