@MHunterYGY Thank you for the reply!

I'd like to hope I'm wrong on Jones and Nunez, but Nunez in particular has had so many chances to prove he's major league ready. I doubt it's the lack of space on the roster, cause then why would we have signed Jayson Nix ya know? Nunez is not a bad player, but he's not defensively mature enough to handle the big leagues for now. As for Jones, maybe it's just gas running out of the tank, but he's really shown us nothing spectacular. We could get the same production out of someone younger, if not more production, but who knows? Baseball is funny like that when guys have hot / cold streaks.

Great article!

I agree completely about Pena and Garcia. Though I think Pena's defense is actually very good, his offense just isn't at a major league level. And while Garcia can provide a little bit of value as an innings eater, he is declining fast, and shouldn't be on the roster next year.

While Nunez does have horrid defense, his offensive potential is pretty good. I don't think he's great, but considering Jeter's declining play and the scarcity of shortstops on the free agent market and in the minors, Nunez might still be a valuable asset. Obviously the defense is a huge issue, and I can't say I'm his biggest fan, but I don't think it's worth giving up on him yet.

As far as Jones, I actually think he's a pretty valuable part of the lineup. He's not a great starter, but he's a fantastic bench player because of his above-average defense and power potential. You can pinch hit him in the late innings when the game is close, have a chance for a home run, and still not sacrifice too much defense. As far as the clutch hitting goes, although you're right that he's been bad in the clutch so far, I don't think that will necessarily continue. Most hitters make adjustments to stuff like that, or it's just bad luck, so I certainly don't think he's an "unclutch player". He is getting old, but I think he has enough left in the tank to be a valuable bench player for a few more years.
