As we saw in Warren’s performance, which I was afraid of, he was given very good run support, be he couldn’t keep them in the game. However, the way the White Sox were hitting, I don’t think many young pitchers could have kept them under wraps… it was just one of those nights.One thing I did see from him is that he has very little movement on his pitches, particularly his fastball. Dare I say, his fastball looks exactly like Hughes’, with very little movement, so location is key. I also think nerves got the best of him a little too. He left a lot of balls up in the zone and the White Sox are a good hitting team and did exactly what they should have with those pitches.

If Warren is going to succeed with his straight fastball, he’s going to need his slider, change, and curve to be better in order to set it up. There’s nothing worse for a pitcher than having a hitter sitting on a straight fastball knowing that the pitcher can’t throw strikes with his secondary offerings.

Your last paragraph says it all. Let Warren get his feet wet as he deserves his chance. The offense is going to have to carry their weight just as much as the rotation in the coming weeks.
