@MHunterYGY You hit the nail on the head. When teams realize that their best reliever should be used when they NEED him versus when it is subscribed they'll be more successful in the long run. The closer role is often times overrated.

@MHunterYGY
I'm with you too, Matt. I subscribe to the notion that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Soriano has been fine as closer and has experience doing it in the AL East. Robertson will get his time after 2013, when Mo presumably retires and Soriano tests the FA market.

I also like using Robertson as the escape artist, not in a defined 8th-inning role.

I agree with Matt. Great article CJ and welcome to the team. Right now, we have to focus on Robertson just getting back to form after the injury and last night, watching him at the game, he did a good job getting through an inning in the 9th with relative ease.

Yeah, though I believe that Robertson is a far superior pitcher than Soriano, I think Robertson may be better suited for those non-9th inning high-leverage situations. I really don't think he should be given the "8th inning role", but should just be put in whenever the game is on the line. Of course, this is often times the 9th, but if I have to choose between a 3-run lead in the 9th and bases loaded no outs and 1 run lead in the 7th, I'll put Robertson in the latter role every time.
