@sward92151 I apologize if my previous comment came off as snarky, I did not mean to insult you or get you so upset. I am also not trying to start an internet pissing war with you. I'm sorry if that's how I come off.

The reason I chose the headline is because it would be what MSM is saying about Jeter if they decide to call him out -- which is what the entire article is about. I guess I did not do a good enough job of illustrating that, which is my fault.

I apologize again if you still take offense to it. I did not write the headline for shock value. I feel it is apropos the subject of my post.

As for Twitter, you definitely didn't get the link from one of my tweets because I put a little blurb w/ it when I tweeted the article. Also, the headline is not a false statement. It is a question posed.

As I said before, I wholeheartedly apologize if you are still upset about it. I never had any intentions of misleading, alienating or upsetting any readers; that would be a foolish move as the whole point of a blog is to draw readers in and keep them coming back.

I hope this one post hasn't sullied your view of Yanks Go Yard and you are at least still able to enjoy the other writers here. Sorry again if you are still upset.

Take care and go Yanks!

Yes Andrew I actually got what you were saying. I am guessing you, however, did not get what I was saying. The link to your article was posted on Twitter with ONLY the headline. It was a sensationalistic headline trying to draw in readers with a false statement-hence my example of "Andrew Corselli? Go read him - he is a plagerist!" False statement, I am assuming, but inflammatory enough to draw in readers under false pretenses. THAT was my problem with your headline. A headline should reflect the heart of the story-not be a statement that you spend an article refuting.

@sward92151 I apologize if you feel I misled you with my headline, that was not my intent. I have never used lurid or sensationalistic headlines before and I wasn't trying to scam my readers with this one. Again, I apologize if you took offense in any way to this post. My objective was certainly not to alienate any readers.

I'm just curious, did you read the whole article or just the headline and the first sentence?

@sward92151
I meant no disrespect to you or any of my readers with my headline. I apologize if I hurt or mislead you in any way. I honestly mean that, I'm not being sarcastic and I sincerely hope you at least liked what I wrote. Or at the very least I hope it was thought provoking. I was only trying to write a good post and I thought the headline was apropos the topic.

I appreciate you offering your opinion, and I want a chance to rebuttal. I'll try to address all your points here. Please be aware that I'm not trying to be snarky, just defending myself.

Your point "It only serves to grab a reader into actually reading your article..."

The whole point of headlines is to draw the reader in. Check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization.

YP: "...your article, which very carefully pointed out that no, Jeter does not cheat." "No trusting what you write."

*sings* One of these things is not like the other.

My headline doesn't say 'Derek Jeter IS A Cheater!' it says 'IS Derek Jeter A Cheater?' There's a big difference there. And the reason I chose it is because...I really think you'd get it if you read the whole article. Did you even read the whole article?

And where did I say anything that would warrant a loss of trust? Because I used an attention-grabbing headline -- which isn't in the slightest bit libelous -- once in two+ years of writing for this site you can't trust my writing? That seems a bit harsh.

YP: "It would be lke me posting a tweet saying...Go Read Andrew Corselli - Is He a Plagerist? and then saying no, of course not."

I honestly wouldn't care if you posted that tweet as long as you made it abundantly clear that I am not a plagiarist, I got page views out of it and you used proper grammar/spelling/punctuation.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk with this reply, I only wanted to defend myself. I really think you're overreacting to the headline, but if I didn't change your mind I hope you are able to continue to enjoy the site. Take care.

The use of lurid, sensationalistic headlines is a disrespect to your readers and a sign of laziness on the part of the author. It only serves to grab a reader into actually reading your article, which very carefully pointed out that no, Jeter does not cheat. It would be lke me posting a tweet saying...Go Read Andrew Corselli - Is He a Plagerist? and then saying no, of course not. But I have already mislead my audience. Unfortunately, now everytime I see a link with your name in it, I will probably avoid it. No trusting what you write.
