Andy, Cervelli, and the A’s: Wednesday Yankees Links

  • It’s what we’ve been waiting for: Andy Pettitte returned to the mound yesterday. He had a quick inning, allowing a leadoff single (which Russell Martin gunned out on an attempt to steal second base) and retiring the next two batters on infield grounders. Pettitte is still looking at May 1st as his MLB target date.
  • Ah darnit – Francisco Cervelli has been optioned to Triple A on the heels of the Yankees trading George Kontos to the Giants in exchange for Chris Stewart. I’ve always had a soft spot for Cervelli for reasons completely unknown to me, so it’s a bit of a bummer
  • Speaking of the Giants, their territorial rights to the San Jose area are still posing a challenge for the A’s who are hopeful for a move.  Enter the inevitable “surely New York could support a third baseball team” discussion.
  • And finally, presenting the Yankees 2012 Opening Day roster. Personally I’m pumped to see David Phelps as the long relief guy.
