Freddy, Phil, & Joba: Wednesday Yankees Links

Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

  • Freddy Garcia, or Phil Hughes? A whopping 87% of you who took our poll say you want to see Hughes as the Yankees fifth starter. River Avenue Blues took a look yesterday at the possibility of Garcia in a relief role. But don’t expect Freddy to take very kindly to that idea.
  • The Yankees made a couple of moves yesterday, claiming catcher Craig Tatum off waivers from the Diamondbacks and signing former Astro Jack Cust to a minor league deal.
  • Speaking of catchers, Austin Romine’s back is still giving him trouble and he likely will not be ready to start opening day with the recently renamed Empire State Yankees.
  • Joba Chamberlain spoke to the media and seemed to be in good spirits. He gave a lot of clarification on his injury, and if what he says is true it’s great to know that the reports of him nearly losing his life and his foot were exaggerated.
