Derek, Andy, and the New Kim Jones: Tuesday Yankees Links

  • Where art thou, Derek Jeter? Not in Tuesday’s lineup because his calf was still nagging at him. For the record, I’m completely fine with this. Why let a 37-year old Jeter play injured in games that mean nothing when he can sit out now and enter the season in a few weeks with fresh legs?
  • The Yankees optioned 4 more players to Triple A yesterday: David Phelps, Brandon Laird, D.J. Mitchell, and George Kontos. I’m sorry to see Phelps go – I really enjoy watching him pitch. Hopefully we’ll see him with the big club at some point this season.
  • Speaking of the Minor Leagues, IATMS has a preview of this year’s projected Trenton Thunder team.
  • Andy Pettitte threw a 50-pitch bullpen session yesterday and everyone was pretty impressed. As much as I’m trying not to get my hopes too high with regards to Andy’s comeback, stories like this one make me giddy and excited to see him back on the mound.
  • YES Network has named Meredith Marakovits as Kim Jones’ replacement. I wonder if she’ll take a page out of Kim’s book and change her Twitter handle to @YESMeredithMarakovits. That would really cut into the 140 character limit.
