Pena, Pineda, and Chien-Ming Wang: Thursday Yankees Links

  • Former Yankee and current National Chien-Ming Wang strained his hamstring trying to make a defensive play against none other than Russell Martin yesterday. I know this doesn’t mean anything for the Yankees, but dang it, I’ve always liked Chien-Ming Wang and I really enjoyed watching him pitch when he was with the Yanks. I hope one of these days the injuries will stay away from him so he can make a legitimate shot at a comeback.
  • Ramiro Pena caught his spikes and hurt his ankle yesterday. He will be out for 2-3 days.
  • Remember yesterday when Andrew Marchand speculated that Michael Pineda might start the year in the minors, then Freddy Garcia got hit in the hand and the question seemed moot, then we found out Garcia was fine? Well, Brian Cashman says Pineda will indeed start the year with Staten Island.
  • Speaking of Pineda, his velocity was still down in yesterday’s game (88-90 MPH), but he is progressing nicely with his change-up. Said Pineda of the change-up: “My changeup today, ooph, it was great.”
