- MLB made a rule change yesterday that prohibits a manager from”sending his current pitcher out to warm up with no intention of having him pitch because a relief pitcher is not ready to enter the game.” Looks like Joe Girardi and several other managers are going to have to tweak their managerial strategies a bit.
- The Yankees have signed reliever David Aardsma to a deal worth $500K. Aardsma is not expected to play much (if any) role in 2012, but Brian Cashman is hoping he can contribute in 2013.
- In addition to Aardsma, the Yankees also picked up utility man Burt Reynolds. Fun fact: in addition to having an awesome name, Reynolds is also Robinson Cano‘s cousin.
- Joba Chamberlain threw yesterday! And Joe Girardi was impressed with what he saw.
- Lou Piniella has been hired by YES to provide pregame and in-game analysis for around 20-30 games this season.
