Payroll, Prospects, and Pop-ups: Tuesday Yankees Links

  • The Yankees have hired Jim Hendry as a special assistant. I’ll be honest, when I saw this news pop up on my Twitter feed I thought it was from one of the joke accounts I follow. Says my Cubs fan-friend Katy: “Have fun with him!” Indeed.
  • The 2012 season hasn’t even started yet, so obviously it is time to look forward to… 2014? The Yankee Analysts broke down what they expect to be the 2014 roster and payroll, which is actually a pretty huge deal given the enormity of some of the current Yankees’ long-term contracts.
  • ESPN New York asked whether Mark Teixeira will continue his reign as the King of Pop-ups next season. And the answer looks like it will probably be “yes.”
  • Baseball America has revamped its prospects lists for the Yankees and the Mariners to reflect the Jesus Montero/Michael Pineda trade. Montero is now #1 in the Mariners system, while Jose Campos ranks #5 for the Yankees.
