Rivera, Albatrosses, and Ambidextrous Pitching: Saturday Yankees Links

  • It’s never too early for hand-wringing, and the crew at IT IS HIGH! IT IS FAR! IT IS… caught has some concern about the Yankees’ chances against left-handed pitching should A-Rod’s injuries plague him this season and Jesus Montero fail to live up to expectations.
  • Good news out of the Mariano Rivera camp as he is recovering quite nicely from his vocal cord surgery.
  • The Flagrant Fan takes a look at how expensive, long-term contracts inevitably hamstring teams. Though the article is not Yankees-specific, it really applies to any teams who are currently committed to one or more hefty contracts.
  • And finally, remember Pat Venditte? He’s the ambidextrous pitcher in the Yankees farm system. Though the Yankees didn’t protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, he didn’t get picked up by another team so he remains in the Yankees’ system. It’s a long-shot that he’ll ever produce at the major league level, but if you’re in a position to see Venditte pitch in the minors it will certainly be entertaining.
