- Alex Rodriguez recently took in a Lakers game and sported a jaunty pair of glasses. The folks over at Hardball Talk are debating whether he looks more like a hipster or more like a nerd, and so far the jury is still out. But I do know this: if A-Rod can’t see a basketball game while he’s sitting courtside, he better invest in a good pair of rec-specs if he hopes to see a 95 mph fastball coming from 60 feet away.
- Now that it’s official that the Yankees won’t be coming to an agreement with Hiroyuki Nakajima, it is time to turn our attention to other sources of infield depth. An obvious choice is Eric Chavez, who posted a line of .263/..320/.356 in 58 games last year. But if the Yankees want to sign him, they had better get on it because the Nationals, Rays, and Padres are reportedly showing interest in Chavez as well.
- Scout.com has released its list of the Top-50 prospects and 4 Yankees made the list. Jesus Montero ranked 5th overall, Manny Banuelos 9th, Dellin Betances 28th, and Gary Sanchez rounded out the list at number 50. I was both a bit surprised and very pleased to see Banuelos ranked so highly, as you probably know if you are a frequent reader that I favor him to Betances.
