Like Dante Bichette Jr., Mason Williams has not yet had much minor league playing time. Williams was drafted in 2010 in the fourth round and signed for an impressive $1.45M. Williams, a center fielder, was drafted primarily for defensive skills and greatly exceeded offensive expectations in his 68 games with Staten Island this past season. As you can see from Williams’ 2011 stat line, he’s quite a speedster and will prove pesky on the base paths, especially if he can continue to post a solid OBP.

We’ll have to wait and see if Williams’ performance at the plate in 2011 is the real deal or just an anomaly, but until then enjoy this video from Baseball America:
