Yankees Weekend Wrap-Up

  • In a nice combo of Yankees-related news and my local news, the Des Moines Register yesterday ran an article about the upcoming Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Even though I am a Hawkeyes fan I’m still pretty excited to watch Iowa State take on Rutgers at the Stadium. If nothing else, it’s great to see Yankee Stadium in all its glory being put to use in the middle of winter.
  • In a move that flew largely under the radar, OF Greg Golson was released by the Yankees this week. After picking up pitchers Brad Meyers and Cesar Cabral in the Rule 5 Draft the Yankees needed to make some space on the 40-man roster and Golson was the unlucky man that had to go. While Golson was outstanding defensively (he racked up 17 assists with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season) his offensive performance just wasn’t developing as quickly as the Yankees had hoped.
  • Minor League Baseball took a look at each organization’s All-Stars this week, and the Yankees have some pretty great names on the list. Jesus Montero and Manny Banuelos receive some of the strongest praise, and guys like Corban Joseph and David Phelps who played in the low-level minor leagues last season and had solid Arizona Fall League performances are also analyzed. Be sure to check out the article for a position-by-position break down of the talent the Yankees have waiting in the minors.
