Mariano Rivera's Surgery "Went Well"

Mo’s surgery to remove polyps from His vocal cords this morning “went well,” according to His agent, Fern Cuza.

Fern Cuza, who might have the best name ever, said he hasn’t spoken to Mo directly, but His wife, Clara, said that the procedure went “as planned.”

Right after the surgery, (Mo’s wife) gave me the green light that everything went fine.

Mo underwent the operation at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He had been bothered by a sore throat for more than a month and had a raspy voice at recent appearances. Mo said His doctor told Him that the polyps didn’t “look like anything serious,” although He is still awaiting biopsy results.

Mo didn’t sound too concerned about the procedure, which isn’t likely to hinder His ability to pitch in 2012, the final year of His contract.

I don’t like surgery, period, but the sooner the better. I have a week without speaking, then another week and I should be fine.

I’m glad it seems everything will be OK with Mo, but something like this should never be taken lightly. Get well soon, Mo!
