On Friday the Desert Dogs lost to the Scottsdale Scorpions in a weird 7-inning game. (I have no idea why it was only 7 innings.) Third baseman Ronnier Mustelier was 0-3 on the day. After absolutely raking for the first 5 weeks of the season his bat has slowed down a bit lately and he is 0-7 in his last two games. Corban Joseph was in the DH role on Friday and went 1-3 with a double. No Yankees pitching prospects took the mound on Friday.

On Saturday the Desert Dogs returned to playing a full 9 innings and beat the Mesa Solar Sox by the score of 8-2. Left fielder Rob Segedin was 2-3 with 2 doubles, a run scored, and a walk. His AFL average is now up to .274. Corban Joseph was back at second base and went 1-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. This double was Joseph’s 8th of the AFL season, and doubles now account for 40% of his total hits during the AFL season (8-20). David Phelps picked up what is likely his final start of the AFL season and put in a strong performance. In 4.1 innings he allowed 7 hits and 1 walk, but allowed just 1 run and struck out 4. Phelps threw a total of 84 pitches, 54 of which (59.5%) were strikes.  Preston Claiborne pitched the 7th inning and allowed 1 run on 2 hits and a walk. He faced 7 batters and threw a total of 18 pitches, 11 of which (61%) were strikes.

The Desert Dogs begin the 7th and final week of the Arizona Fall League season with a game against the Surprise Saguaros this afternoon at 2:35 PM EST.
