Derek Jeter gets his 3,000th hit

Derek Jeter has done it.

Today he became the 28th member of the 3,000-hit club with a home run to left field in the third inning. He is just the 11th player to record all of his hits with the same team.

Jeet is only the second member (Wade Boggs) of this prestigious club to smack a home run as his 3,000th hit. The dinger snapped a 286-at-bat homer-less streak, and it was his first over-the-fence long ball at Yankee Stadium since June 12, 2010 (333 at-bats). He had an inside-the-parker at home off Bruce Chen against the Royals on July 22, 2010.

Congratulations, Derek!

Wade Boggs:

"Congratulations, first of all, to Derek Jeter on joining the 3,000-hit club. It is an exclusive honor, achieved by only a select group, that not many people can call their own. It is a monumental achievement, and Derek has climbed the mountain. He’s reached that honor where he can stake his flag in the mountain and call it his own."

Boggsy added that he looks forward to Derek eventually joining him in the Hall of Fame.

I’d love to write more, but I’ve literally never been more bitter in my entire life. You can add this to the long list of milestones I’ve missed by one game.
