Yanks win game they had no business winning

After going 0-for-5 with RISP early on, the Yanks strung together a late-innings rally and stole the game from the Jays, 5-4. They scored two runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings and finished 4-for-10 with RISP. They really should have lost this one, but a win is a win and I’ll take it.

If not for Granderson they probably don’t win (not to mention CC, but more on that later). Grandy sparked the eighth-inning rally with a leadoff double, moved to third on a Tex groundout and eventually scored when Cano doubled. Cano came around on a Russell Martin — who had a solo homer in the second stanza —single, and it was 4-3.

Pinch-hitter Posada had a one-out double in the ninth and pinch-runner Chris Dickerson moved to third when Jeet grounded out. Grandy then tied the game with an RBI single before stealing second and crossing home when Tex followed suit with an RBI single.

Holy shit, what a win. There are no words.

Grandy finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. It was his first four-hit game since getting five hits on 7/30/08 with the Tigers against the Indians. He was also caught stealing, but more than made up for it.

Cano was also huge with a pair of doubles, but CC deserves a lot of credit too. He pitched great and was actually in line to take the loss if they didn’t rally late. CC went the distance and gave up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts to one walk. He threw 103 pitches with 77 going for strikes. Most importantly, he held Jose Bautista to 0-4 with a K; Joey Bats is now 0-for-15 lifetime against CC.

It was the first time a Yankee starter went nine innings since CC did it against the Orioles on 5/8/09.

That was the good news, here’s the bad:

Rafael Soriano felt soreness again and has been shut down indefinitely. He was sent for a dye contrast MRI today and will be seeing Dr. Andrews tomorrow. The team won’t release the MRI results until he sees the doc; all they said was, “It showed enough for him to see Andrews.” That does not sound good…I wonder if he’ll try to blame the offense for the injury.

These teams will play the rubber match tomorrow at 1 with Fabulous Freddy going against Jo-Jo Reyes.

LET’S GO YANKS!!!!
