Eight innings pitched, seven hits, one run, six strikeouts, one walk and 99 pitches with 65 going for strikes. That is all.

Bart retired eight in a row at one point and 11 of 12, he was absolutely filthy and even hit 96mph on his 94th pitch of the night. He got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the second inning en route to his longest outing since Sept. 22, 2007 with the Angels (8IP vs. the Ms). This guy has been a God-send for the rotation, and I only hope he can keep it up.

Girardi on Colon:

"He has an extra gear, and tonight he was great. It’s (his production) been huge for us. Everytime he’s taken the mound, he’s given us a chance to win; his production has been huge.We have to be smart about him and his workload. He’s going to have to bounce back every five days.I don’t think I really imagined that (him being this good). He continues to impress us"

Colon (through a translator):

"I’m feeling pretty happy, what I did tonight made me really happy.I’m not really surprised because in spring training I threw six innings, and the more I pitch I feel better. I feel like I can do it."

on getting out of that jam in the second:

"In that inning I used my two-seamer more than anything else."

on his late-game velocity:

"It surprised me today that I was throwing late in the game really hard, but when I was in the bullpen I felt really strong. So I had an idea that I was going to have a good game."

Some injury news:

  • Tex has a sore right shoulder from when he made a dive last night, he made another tonight and aggravated it. He was replaced in the ninth inning by Eric Chavez at first. The good news is that no tests are scheduled, and he’s just sore. He said he’s not too concerned about it and will get a lot of treatment on it tomorrow. However, it did look like he had herpes on his lip during the postgame interview.
  • Phil Hughes might have a circulatory problem (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome), and the team is sending him to a specialist — Dr. William Thompson in St. Louis — for a diagnosis. Billy will determine what the deal is with Phil and a potential treatment program, but there is no date set for that.

Girardi on Hughes:

"Anytime you talk about circulatory problems, you’re concerned."

Fun Facts:

  • Cano hit a three-run homer and has now homered in two straight and four of his last five home games.
  • Ozzie Guillen was ejected after the top of the first inning for arguing a called third strike on Paul Konerko. He proceeded to tweetabout it not 10 minutes later.
  • This was the fastest nine inning game in new Yankee Stadium history (2 hours, 11 minutes)
  • Mo bounced back from two consecutive blown saves to record his 567th save.
  • Swish Dog is now 0 for his last 18 at-bats.
  • Girardi recorded his 300th win as Yankee manager, only the ninth guy in history to do that.

The Yanks will send CC to the mound tomorrow against Edwin Jackson at 7:05 in the finale of this four-game set.

LET’S GO YANKS!!!
